Is Accessibility the 'Missing Piece' in the Pedagogy Pie?

Presented by Dr Haley TancrediHaley Tancredi

Dr Haley Tancredi, a lecturer in the QUT School of Education and the Inclusion & Exclusion Program co-leader in QUT’s Centre for Inclusive Education, is also a certified practising speech pathologist who has worked in education since the early 2000s. Dr Tancredi’s research is transdisciplinary and focuses on supporting teachers to create accessible pedagogical environments using Accessible Pedagogies and a model for relational teacher coaching.

The two-way instructional interactions that take place in the classroom hinge on shared attention and understanding between students and teachers. But what happens when there is a breakdown? And what if the instruction provided is already high-quality? In this session, Dr Tancredi will discuss why accessibility is critical for high-quality classroom pedagogy. Dr Tancredi will introduce Accessible Pedagogies and will explore how teachers can create inclusive learning environments using this framework with all students. She will also share findings from her research, showcasing the impact of Accessible Pedagogies on students with high-incidence disabilities impacting language comprehension and information processing, such as ADHD and Developmental Language Disorder.

This session, Is Accessibility the ‘Missing Piece’ in the Pedagogy Pie?, will explore the critical role of accessibility in high-quality classroom instruction. Dr Tancredi will introduce the Accessible Pedagogies framework and share research findings on its impact, particularly for students with high-incidence disabilities affecting language comprehension and information processing, such as ADHD and Developmental Language Disorder.

Primary and secondary teachers from around South-East Queensland are most welcome to attend this free event, as are St Margaret’s parents.
